Privateer’s 24 hours in Old Pueblo

Midday Saturday: the start is a Le Mans style affair. Riders sprinted 200m to their bikes, then funneled through a corridor of spectators and fellow riders, all cheering at the top of their lungs and taking photos and video. Photo: Andy Waterman/Privateer

The crew from Privateer were on the ground in the Arizona desert earlier this month to capture the atmosphere of one of the world’s most legendary 24hr events, the Kona 24hrs of Old Pueblo.

Expect to see a beautiful collection of words and images in the next issue of the magazine, including an interview with the winner, Canadian Cory Wallace (who’s day-job as a “danger tree feller” meant he only started riding again two weeks before the race).

Twenty minutes to go and everyone had had enough. There was a really nice family atmosphere at the race, but this kid looked like he was about ready for a proper bed. Photo: Andy Waterman/Privateer
